For carpets certified under the NSF/ANSI-140 standard, manufacturers must also:

  • Take back used carpet
  • Use energy-efficient manufacturing processes
  • Use bio-based, recycled or environmentally preferable materials
  • Minimize adverse public health, environmental and community impacts.

These products are not required to be free of polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
